CEO/MD of Terragon, Elo Umeh has yet again received another global recognition. This time he has been recognized as one of the Global Top 100 Most influential people of AfricanDescent under the age of 40 by MIPAD.
The announcement was made at the recently concluded MIPAD Annual Recognition Week following the opening of the 75th General Assembly of the United Nations.
Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD), is a global civil society initiative in support of the United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent, focusing on the 1st pillar of the decade; RECOGNITION. The goal is to recognize outstanding personalities and high achievers of African descent around the world for their positive contributions to the world.
MIPAD publishes unique global 100 lists that identifies high achievers of African descent worldwide, pairing those based across the Diaspora with their counterparts inside Africa, across various verticals, and will be released annually until 2024.
Speaking at the recognition ceremony, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet expressed that “the organization of this recognition directly falls under one of the three pillars of the International Decade for people of African Descent; Recognition, Justice and development. As we approach the mid-term of the international decade, we will need to do more to build up on our achievements so far, collating more awareness for social impact led by a global network of influencers such as yourself is much needed. The global anti-racism protests this year has made it clear that communities must be able to stand up against racism and racial discrimination, participate in shaping decisions that affects them and be able to air their views” she added.
Previous honourees include: Naomi Osaka (Class of 2019), Michael B. Jordan, Colin Kaepernick (Class of 2018), Lewis Hamilton, Beyoncé (Class of 2017), etc.Elo Umeh was named in the Business and Entrepreneurship category, in the 2020 cohort.
